Summer is almost here! {A FREE PRINTABLE}

Hello my friends!

Summer is only three weeks away!

How is that possible?  There is so much for me to do in this house to prepare for our upcoming move and I don't even know where to start.  Well, really, I have started.

We have seven of the eight {very large} Rubbermaid containers we've bought filled to the max with stuff.  De-cluttering makes me realize how much we have.  Once it's all out of the closets I feel refreshed and it makes me never want to have it back in there again.  All we have to do is keep what I've done neat and organized so that when it comes time to sell there is not so much to do.  That's endeavour in this house.

Now to get the house sparkling clean!  My sister-in-law, Tessa {a.ka. Kara} is coming down from New York to help me do just that.  Tess is a tough cookie and that's what I need.  Someone to give me a good kick in the butt.  I know that the time she'll be here, everything that needs to get done will probably get done.  She keeps me motivated and that's what I need.

Enough of that.

On to a little of this.

It's always hard for me to pick my favorite season.  I love Fall because of the cool breezes and beautifully colored leaves.  I love Winter because of fun in the snow and how families gather during that time of year.  I love Spring because after one too many months of Winter, I welcome the warm sun and being outside with my family in the green grass.

I love Summer because it makes me feel like home.  I love how the sun feels when it warms my skin, going to the beach or to the lake with my family and feeling that sand in between my toes.  I love camping and having barbecues and picnics.  I especially love it when no yard work has to be done and my husband can fully enjoy a day with the family.  He's a hard working man who takes such good care of his family.  I love to see him relax.  It's a rare occasion as he's one of those people that always has to be doing something.  I love you baby, and all you do for our family.

Here's a Summer printable for you to enjoy for FREE.  Please feel free to print out, but for your personal use only.  It's made to print up to 8x10.  If you share somehow or pin it to Pinterest, just make sure it's linked back to me and this specific post {not the entire blog}.

Homemade Ice Cream with my girls

Happy Friday my friends!

With Spring in full and Summertime quickly approaching, I find myself spending a lot of time outside with our girls.  We all love to be outside.  Locke and I especially love it because it wares the girls out and makes sleepy time much easier!

Pinterest is loaded with tons of ideas for crafts and activities for little ones.  Check out THIS post that I put together for some ideas.

I've wanted to do an easy and fun recipe that the girls could be involved in, so I decided to try homemade ice cream.  A lot of the pins I found for homemade ice cream were based on the recipe from the website, Disney Family Fun.  THIS is the link to their site for the full recipe.  They even have a video tutorial.

Zoe was tired and didn't want to have anything to do with the shaking of the bags, but she was definitely interested.  I'll have to do it again next week in the early afternoon.  Mia had a lot of fun shaking the bags until her fingers got frozen!  I ended up doing most of the shaking.  I recommend you double bag the gallon size bags like the video tutorial shows you.  Otherwise, if you do like I did, you may want to do this outside or on the kitchen countertop because there could be some leakage.

Once it came time to eating the ice cream, both Mia and Zoe were all about it!  They loved it and I had some myself.  It was very yummy and we will definitely be doing it again.

Have you tried homemade ice cream before?

Do you put any special treats in yours?

My dream craft room...

I've been dreaming of having a craft room for a long time now.  I've wanted a place for all of my paints, brushes, glue guns,  scrappin' papers, fabrics, and sewing machine {someday}, instead of hiding everything under beds in Rubbermaid containers.  It all has to do with space {or a lack thereof} in our current home.  But, we are moving this summer and we are looking for a bigger home.  I'm hoping that one of those rooms will be mine.

My dream craft room.

Dream Craft Room Board on Pinterest

Here are some of my favorite .

Jaime at Rasing Up Rubies has this dreamy craft room.  She obviously put lots of love into this room.  There are so may things to look at, you have to go to to her blog to see all the photos she posted to take it all in.  One of my favorite parts of the room is the table with the ruffled skirt.  She also topped it off with a dress pattern.

Heather at Hello My Name is Heather created this room in which her husband built quite a bit of the furniture.  How can you not be creative in this room?!  I love that green chest girl, can I steal it from you?

Jenny at Allsorts created this perfectly imperfect craft room!  I think it's more like what my dream craft room would look like.  Fun, colorful, organized & a tad bit messy.  I love it!

Ashley at Little Miss Momma created this lovely craft space.  I love her used of color and texture throughout the room.  The pennant banners are so fun and whimsical and the punches of yellow and blue  are so fun.

Don't forget to visit all of the blogs to see the details.   They are all amazing and there is so much to see.  Thank you ladies for giving me such inspiration in my soon to be dream craft room.

I will have it!

WANTED: Camera that will take great blog & family photos!!!

I've been wanting a nice camera for awhile now.  One that takes amazing photos.  I want to be able to photograph my family and give you great blog photos as well.

This is the camera we've been using for the last few years.  It takes decent photos, but I would like more.

I've pinned some beautiful photos I've seen through Pinterest here and there onto my Photography Board and recently I've pinned a couple of bloggers that give tips on how to take better blog photos.

Susan from

has given a few different tutorials on taking better blog photos and has also shared with us some of the resources she uses, such as Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and some free photo editing sites.  You can find other tutorials Susan provides at the end of THIS post.  Susan has also showed her readers what photography equipment she uses HERE.

Here is one of her before & afters:

Another blog I've pinned is

They have a great tutorial A Quick Guide to Understanding Your DSLR Camera.  I cannot wait to get my own so I can start practicing!

Erin from

How to Nest for Less

put together a blog series called Photoshop Tips & Tricks.  I think I've referenced all of the posts in her series.  I especially like Adjusting Your Blog Photos to Perfection.

Check out Erin's blog to see the other posts in her series.

Do you have any other great ideas for how to take better blog photos?

What kind of camera do you use?

Decortative Matchbox

Hola!

How was your weekend?

Ours was spent getting sick.  It wasn't all bad though.  We had some beautiful weather.  Yesterday was sunshiny and breezy all day.  I spent as much of it as I could outside.  My wonderful hubby also ordered us dinner from Carraba's.  We were in a mood for something different, something yummy, but we didn't want to cook.  It was delicious!

Anywho...

Here's a little something I did yesterday when I was inside.  I decorated a large matchbox that I bought in a two pack at the dollar store.  I wanted to beautify something that I could do quickly.  These matchboxes have been sitting on the countertop for about two weeks.  It was time.  I will do the other one today {maybe}!

This is what I started with.

I didn't use all the supplies pictured.  It all depends on how much you want to embellish your boxes.

First I cut the paper to cover the top and bottom of your box. I left a little extra  to hang over the sides where the striking surface is.  It all depends on the size if your box.

On the striking surface side, use the scoring blade {I think that's what it's called-the one that makes a line but doesn't cut} on the edges to created the flaps that will go on either side of the box.  Again, the measurements all depend on the size of your box.

This is what you should have after you've glued the paper to both sides.

Decorate the box as you would like.

Here's what I came up with.  What do you think?

This is what happened after I left the glitter glue to dry.  I have bad luck leaving things to dry around Zoe...

Did you work on any projects this weekend?

Have a great day!

My first quilt: CRAZY QUILT!!!

Monday night I started my very first quilt.

A Crazy Quilt.

Here is my first square.

Tonight I worked on five more!  It's not as easy as I thought it would be.  Don't get me wrong, it's not hard, but you still have to think a little about your placement.  I'm having fun working with it.

AFTER I started sewing, I thought, maybe I should look at Pinterest for some ideas.  These are some of the Crazy Quilts I found that caught me eye.

Love the colors used by Bijou Lovely here.  I would like to make a more modern, streamlined Crazy Quilt for my bedroom after this one, so I'll keep this straight lined one in mind.

Bijou Lovely

I like the rick rack used here.  I think I'll do this with my quilt.

Omelete de Amoras

My quilt has lines more like this one.  I think I would also like to add embellishments to mine using embroidery thread and maybe even some buttons.

Instructables

I cannot wait to  get more blocks completed and start sewing them together!

I'm very excited.

Have you ever worked on a quilt?

What was your first one and how did you do with it?
