Celebrating Zoe's Birthday

We had a lot of fun celebrating Zoe's Birthday last night.

Abi (my mom) made a delicious banana pound cake with cream cheese frosting.  Lot's of fingers dipped in the frosting before we actually sung Happy Birthday.

Our wonderful friend and neighbor, Melanie, came over with Lily Bug.

Zoe was digging all of the attention.

After singing in both english and spanish (my family is from Puerto Rico) we all chowed down.

Happy Birthday again Zoe!

I cannot wait for her party on Saturday!

I cannot believe two years have gone by already!

Zoe is the loviest, cuddliest little girl ever--she has my feistiness too!

At this time she was already one hour old.  I was in recovery from my c-section and Locke was with her.  My parents were getting Mia ready to bring her to the hospital to meet her little sister for the first time.

I feel like it was just yesterday.

I don't want her to grow any more.

I want Mia and Zoe to stay little forever.

Busy day in the life of the Brown's

For those of you who don't know, I am a Reservist in the U.S. Coast Guard.  This is my drill weekend.  There's usually not too much going on when I drill but today was a busy day for the Brown's.

My parents took our littlest ones, Mia and Zoe, to the Children's G]\asparilla Parade in downtown Tampa.

We also had Locke's award ceremony for his race season at Eastbay Raceway Park.  It was his rookie year and he did AWESOME!  He only raced a fraction of the races mostly due to his work schedule and he made the top ten for the Street Stock division-8th place!  I'm so proud of you baby!

Here are some of our pics of the day.

Hope you had a wonderful one!

Me "hard at work"!

 (Sorry so dark)

Mia looks like she was sharing.

So cute!

8th is just the 7th looser to him!

You're my #1 baby!

Prepping for the Carnival Birthday

My mom and I were sewing up a storm today getting ready for Zoe's Birthday.  We did Mia and Zoe's shirts, bean bags for the bean bag toss, pennant banners and table runners.  My mom also finished sewing crayon roll-ups (not pictured-yet) that we are giving as gifts to all of the little ones.  Check it out!

My wonderful Mami who did pretty much ALL of the sewing working on the runner for desert table.

I cannot wait to see everything put together!

Can you?!

Popcorn Cupcakes

Zoe's 2nd Birthday is coming up next week.  Tuesday to be exact.  I know it so cliche to say, but I just cannot believe how time flies!  She's an amazing little girl.  Feisty at times but such a love bug!  We are celebrating her birthday next weekend.  I'll be turning our house into a Big Top Carnival!  I've got most everything I need already but there are still a few details left undone.

There will be a small round cake and POPCORN CUPCAKES!  I decided I needed to start practicing on some of the sweets we'll have for the candy/desert table.  I didn't want to encounter any surprises the day or two before the party when I start making everything.  Yesterday I worked on the cupcakes.

I didn't use a special recipe although my mom says I should, we'll see... Yesterday I just used boxed cake mix and frosting.  For the "popcorn" I used mini marshmallows.  I took a pair of scissors and snipped an "X" from one end into the middle of the marshmallow.  My friend Berlitz told me to squish them after that step and it would make the "pop" look more realistic. That was after I had already finished though.  So I'll try that when I officially make them for the party.

Frost your cupcakes, not too much and not too little.  Then start placing the uncut side of the marshmallows down on the frosting.  I like starting from the edge, not from the middle and place them as close and you can to one another.

For the "butter" look I used yellow food coloring.  3 drops or so into a small bow and added about 1 tbls. of water.  I used a silicone brush, dipped it into the "butter" and lightly brushed it onto the top of the marshmallows until I got the desired look.

And here is what you get:

Here's a pic with the sleeve that will go around the cupcakes the day of the party:

And here's one with little sticky fingers (Zoe):

I think they will be fun!

What do you think?

Hello, my name is...

My name is Melissa and I am a proud stay at home mommy!  I have to little girls, Mia (3) and Zoe (2), and also have to teenage step-daughters, Kelsey and Shelby.  I am married to my best friend, Locke, for over 8 years now.

I live a crazy life...crazy in my head!  I'm sure as most mom's in my place know, it can be hard to keep it all organized.  This blog is to share my journey through mommyhood and my attempt to keep it all together.  I also love crafts, DIY projects, decorating and cooking and would love to share my projects with you.

So here it goes...

Things happen in your life that you can't stop,
but that's no reason to shut out the world.
There's a purpose for the good and for the bad.
