Springtime favorites of the week!

Hello there!  I hope you had a fantabulous weekend.

There is nothing that compares to Spring.

Nothing like this fresh air, the warm breeze and sun shining down on my skin.

Nothing like bursts of colorful flowers blossoming in the morning.

Nothing like afternoon rain showers with little girls in rain boots splashing around in puddles.

I just love this this time of year.

These are some of my favorite finds {through Pinterest} that remind me of this special season.

How about a warm hello in the entryway?

Fresh clean lines.  Inviting entryway.  Two perfect little pair of rain boots waiting for the girls to slip on and splash in rain puddles.

The Simple Things

I've posted this room before.  I love everything about it.  There is nothing I would change.  Perfect springtime colors for a family room.

Southern Living
How I would love to have a room where I could start off the day by opening french doors to the outdoors {and making the bed of course!}

Cute artwork for Mia & Zoe's room.  I know that they would love this!  Now, I have to go and buy the butterfly punch...

The Idea Room
Our next home will have fresher colors like these. I would like to have pops of colors in textiles and decor.  It seems like forever before we get into a new home, but I know it'll be here before we know it.

Design Seeds

I have a few pair of rain boots that are waiting for me to do this!  What a great idea!

Rosy Posy
My mom made one of these bags this weekend and I love it.  They would be perfect to take to the market on a Saturday morning.  I already hinted to Locke what I want for Mother's Day...a sewing machine!

Delia Creates

We've done 3 out of 8 so far.  I will make sure we complete all of them before Spring is up!

How to Nest for Less
So my style.  Love all the colors.  I would only change one thing: silver instead of gold.  I'm a Silpada girl, gotta have the silver!

bluehydrangea via Polyvore
Orange-Oregano dressing.  Sounds so refreshing to put on a nice spinach salad.  I would change one thing:  cilantro instead of oregano.  I will try this soon.

Eating Well
I may have to try this soon as well:  shrimp and scallop ceviche!  It's so refreshing.  I love ceviche!

Noble Pig
Mango Beach Smoothie, need I say more?  I would change one thing because I can't do tequila. I would use rum, maybe even some Malibu coconut rum.

Sounds delish!

Linky Parties

As most of you know, I'm a newbie to blogging.  I'm having so much fun learning as I go and "finding my niche".

One of the things I've been most curious about are these Linky Parties.  I didn't know how they worked, but I think I finally figured it out.

I'd like to create my own Linky Party as I think it's a great way to get people to visit your site and find other great blogs as well.

I linked up to this Linky Party yesterday.  I am #51.

They used this site to host all of the links, so I will try it out with my first Linky Party.

These were the blogs hosting the Linky Party:

DIY Chalkboard Paint & Chalkboard

How is your Monday going?

Mine has been pretty laid back.  I haven't been feeling well, so I've taken advantage and took {yet another} off day.  I deserve it!

At least I think I do...

Here is my DIY project for the day:

What do you think?

I had a lot of fun doing this project.  It was very easy and very cheap!

I've been eyeing {thanks to Pinterest} a few DIY Chalkboard Paint recipes and DIY Chalkboards for awhile now.  You can check out some of the pins I have on my Crafts Board on Pinterest, but my favorite has to be A Beautiful Mess Blog's take where she used different color paints and also shows how to slate your chalkboard before you write on it.

Here's how it goes.

You first have to decide what you want to paint!

I went Goodwill Hunting again this weekend and found these two platters and a mirror.  I got a discount on top of these prices, so my total came out to $4 and change.

 Now to mix your paint.

Super easy!

Here comes the fun part...PAINTING!  I did 5 thin coats of paint {it dries fairly quickly} and let it dry completely overnight before I slated my chalkboards.

That's it!  Easy peasy!

I had all of the materials to make the paint {other than the un-sanded grout~my neighbors are renovating their bathroom though, so they hooked me up with that} so the paint was FREE!  That's always nice, right?

Here are the finished projects:

Remember, this is a mirror!  I painted the back of the mirror with the chalk paint, so I can always use it as a mirror again if I choose.  I got that idea from The Diary of Daves Wife.

What do you think?  Created any DIY projects lately?  Tell me all about!

Spring has sprung!

While out running errands with the girls yesterday, I had the urge to check out the garden center where we were shopping.  I knew that I had a few pots on the porch back home that had some plants which had not survived the winter months.  They needed to be given some love.  I don't have the greenest thumb ever so I make sure to get plants which are easy to take care of.

I love having bright, colorful flowers to look at everyday so I decided I wanted impatiens.  I've also been swooning over succulents.  I'd love to test out my gardening skills with them.  I hear they are very easy to take care of as the do not require much watering.

These are the plants that I ended up choosing.

Impatiens are what I usually gravitate towards when I'm looking for color and ease.

I also like to add some softness to my larger pots.  I do that by getting plants which are delicate and will grow over the side and hang.  I cannot remember the name of this one for the life of me {sorry} but it smells amazing, sort of like basil.

For my succulents, these are the ones I ended up choosing.

I needed a pot to plant the succulents in, but the store I was in they were way to expensive! I had to think out of the box.  I passed through the dinnerware section and found some nice soup/cereal bowls.  I fell in love with the glaze on the inside and outside of this one and had to have it.  At a little over $3, it was a fraction of the price of the pots in the gardening center.  I'll have my husband drill a hole in the bottom for drainage.  I also found {after looking up succulent care info} that you should place pebbles on the bottom to speed drainage, which I did not do.  Hopefully, once the dirt settles from a few waterings, the glaze will show a bit.

This is the plant food that I use for my plants.  It feeds up to three months, which is great for me since I'm rather scatterbrained!

Here is the before...

...and here is the after!

This was my helper for the afternoon.  Mia helped Mami out while Zoe napped for a little while.

This was the pot in which all of my dead plants were.  I spaced out four impatiens and the "hangy" plant.  Within the next couple of weeks, the impatiens will have filled out and you won't see any of the dirt.  I can't wait to see it overflowing!

The fifth impatien went into the small, glazed, blue pot which is of my favorites.  I bought the glazed pots I have at Ross.  I've seen them in stores like Walmart & Target this small size for $20-$30 and this one cost me under $10.  The larger ones were $15-$20.

And there you have it!

I'll post an update in a few weeks so you can see how they've grown.

Now, for a few of my favorite things...

Zoe loves to "help" Mami water the plants by sticking her hands in the stream.  She's always getting soaked!

Dirty little rubber boots.

The sounds of wind chimes make me so happy.  They immediately relax me and bring back fond memories.

This is a Calla Lily plant that Locke got for me last year.  I thought it had died, but I kept taking care of it in hopes that it would grow back.  It did!  It sprouted a few weeks ago and it's first leaf opened up a couple days ago.  I am most happy about this plant right now!

I've had these since last year.  I think one of the reasons I love impatiens so much is because they remind me of Puerto Rico.  You see these everywhere there.  I also love as I said before that they bloom everyday!

This plant reminds me of my best friend, Ashley.  She gave it to me a few months ago.  It was replanted from a cutting and when she brought it to me it was not doing all that well.  We thought it would die, but I babied it and look at her now.  About 8 inches bigger than when Ashley brought it to me!

Last, but definitely not least, is my best Yard Sale find EVER!  The last time that Locke and I ever went junk hunting, we stopped by a house where the family was moving out {literally, they had a U-Haul and were packing it in a hurry} and I think they had actually ended the sale.  They had some things left over though and told us we could look around.  I asked them if this bench was for sale and they said I could have it for $1...yes, ONE DOLLAR!  Locke and I put this sucker into the back of the truck and left happy as can be!  I love my $1 bench!

What kind of things are you doing to spruce up your entryway, your house, or your yard for Spring?

I'd like to hear all about it!
